Queen of Kells

Currently i'm starting to learn Irish - weird language - at university and i told myself - why not share some of this experience with you!!!
It has been a long time since i've started this painting. While i finished the fg portrait quite quickly, i spent much more time on the bg. As you can see i mixed elements from different styles, such as celtic, baroque, gothic and contemporary, together with the initial portrait painted in Painter IX. To me this "fruit salad" seemed harmonic. The contrasts might be a bit low, but this way the test-print came out the best. Another "winter"-version is available, click [link]

Mostly Painter IX (portrait and Book of Kells illumination - everthing's painted with tablet on PC), Photoshop especially for the bg.
