Medieval Chainmail : Hauberk

Description

A medieval chainmail shirt or simply hauberk with an integrated coif as depicted in the Maciejowsky Bible.

It weighs almost 9kg, but most of this weight allocates to your shoulders when you wear it. Though it's not as easy to keep your balance in the beginning: running, falling down and standing up again, and riding with a chainmail were the major challenges which i had to confront. But after some practice you get used to it...
Nevertheless riding with an hauberk still was quite dangerous - especially when you do narrow turns (spins), sliding stops and rearing ups. So i went to make a medieval saddle, too, with high cantles, which keep you in position even in quick exercises!

At the bottom you see the different steps how a chainmail's made: first wind a wire rope around a round stick, then cut the rings apart and close them together...Simple, ain't it! :XD:

Made it in 2000 as i was sweet little 16! Lot of wire, nerves and sweat!
